Great communication from the host, very accommodating! Great way to unplug for a couple of days!
Wow! Little Cabin Island was an absolute joy to stay at – we had perfect weather for maybe the most beautiful sunrise I've ever seen, got to canoe around the lake, see so many loons, a bald eagle, and imagined what our lives would be like if we lived there full time. Huge thank you to Kent for being a fantastic host, and for sharing about the awesome work going on at 1BSI. We hope to return in the summer and get some swimming in!
Until we have a private island of our own we will continue to make the trip to Little Cabin Island. Even bing off the grid we had all the creature comforts we needed. Canoeing, hiking on the Big Island, sunset naps in the hammock and fires at night. We enjoyed every aspect of this weekend adventure. Kent was a fantastic host and was always in communication and happy to make supply deliveries when needed. 5 out of 5 - would recommend!
If your reading this review, you must be considering a unique maine cabin experience.
If the title drew you in, no need to look further. This is an incredibly unique, comfortable and extremely relaxing experience. The hosts made sure that we had everything we needed to be comfortable, while giving us plenty of privacy, but were very prompt with communication.
I can’t wait to come back.
This place rocks.
Words cannot describe our deep appreciation for LCI and our amazing hosts! Thank you for the opportunity to disconnect from our busy lives and to not work so hard for a change. It was the most relaxing time we've enjoyed in many many moons.
My wife, large dog and I had a great time at Kent’s private little cabin island. He is an an excellent host of his cabin and captain of his boat and highly responsive within minutes. We enjoyed beautiful decent weather during our boat ride. Later on, falling asleep to the rain on the metal roof for the first time was relaxing. I enjoyed making fires in the very nice wood stove, outdoor fire pit and the easy to use well built propane burners Kent showed my wife and I how to use before he left made us feel relaxed and comfortable with his initial walk through. The propane tanks and grills throughout his property were very well maintained and easy to use as described and enjoyed using all of it easily and enjoyed using some of his dishes and utensils and put in provided bins at the end of the stay. There is compost which we liked and recycling and trash bins. The bottled water tastes good. The French press and kettle are very well made. Kent provided Lulu with a few toys in case we forgot ours which she loved very much. We loved the trails around the island. The main one to the hammock is widest has a few branches that is fun to take the time to move as you pass and there is another windy trail I tried that is for the more adventurous with insects I didn’t mind… Will be more fun during the winter but the dog loved running through it quickly. If your feeling a little more adventurous than that there are kayaks and a canoe I enjoyed using with my wife and dog on the canoe and while I was kayaking I watched my dog follow me around the island. Some of the rocky shoreline pictured is submerged from recent rainfall and my dog loved going chest deep in it walking around the shore while I kayaked and we used wet shoes to walk around up to our ankles. If your using the outdoor fire pit which we loved the heat from it and want one for ourselves just make sure you close the front and back doors and windows or you’ll have to open the upstairs window to air out the cabin after if you forget to close the front door like I did but it aired out quickly with the back door and upstairs window open. I recommend the outdoor hammock over the water but use someone to help you get off easily so your just as relaxed as you were when you hung out on it which my wife and I did for each other nicely. There are well placed cozy sturdy chairs placed around the island one near the hammock two near the fire pit, the rocking chair on the porch was amazing and chair and table and a chair hammock on the deck was very cozy. The shed in the yard had life jackets and oars for the kayaks I opened the fishing tackle box to check it out and a very thoughtful note left written on it with instructions for getting an online fishing permit if you didn’t know. The bed was very comfortable to sleep on two nights. I slept excellent with my wife and large dog on top both nights. It was very cozy just the way I like it. The shower was inviting during the warmer part of the day in the lower 70’s and well build well made and exactly as described we helped each other pump to keep the pressure up longer to extend shower time a few minutes and the temperature dial didn’t have to go past a few millimeters from the bottom for the temperature to reach the optimal temp. There is a portable fan we didn’t use and a surplus of flashlights we ended up using one very small very powerful flashlight. The radio and lights on the walls were perfect dimness and already set to our favorite station! We enjoyed seeing beautiful loon birds flying and diving and just being Larry’s… 5 stars for everything because Kent went above and beyond easily and helped bring all of our bags and took the heavier items either together or by himself without asking him to and I felt that he must be one of the most excellent people and Airbnb hosts that we’ve had the pleasure of meeting and we got to stay at his beautiful place! His guests were nice when we spoke to them on both boat rides who also gave us excellent reviews! Looking forward to going back sometime! It required the right adventurous spirit but it’s definitely worth it and exactly what we needed.
We had such a great stay at little cabin island - The Ackleys were wonderful hosts and the location cannot be beat. Great hospitality and accommodations made for amazing nature retreat for us and our dog Reggie. Thank you Kent! Hope to return someday
Right from the starting communication, Kent was responsive & very friendly. He has thoughtfully created a check in process covering all bases. At the parking area, you text your arrival. He has wheeled carts for you to place your belongings in. It’s rather intriguing because at that point, you cannot really see the lake. Then you wheel your cart down the trail where you meet the boat that will take you to the island. Once we, our dogs & carts were all in, we headed to our island. The lake was huge! Gorgeous! Kent was really nice and informative - a very likable guy! Our first impression of the island and the cabin could not have been better. The awesome part is that our first impression did not falter our whole stay. It is hands down the best place ever! The dogs were tuckered out at the end of every day & we slept like logs! My body simply melted into the comfy bed in the loft every night! The loons, the eagles, the kayaking & exploration of the big island were all fantastic. I had told Kent when I was booking the reservation that I just wanted to pretend I lived there! That I did! It’s interesting that from every vantage point, (love the west side hammock!), I found myself pondering my life on a deep level. Interestingly so, I found a book in the cabin (The woman in cabin 10) that I actually almost bought to take with me on this trip. (I finished it & it was really good). All in all, my heart and soul needed and loved every minute of this vacation. Normally when I go somewhere fabulous, I typically feel really down when I get home and back to my life. It was such a deeply relaxing, soul stirring experience that as I left the island behind, I felt like that island & I made a pact. I will return and I will continue to return because the take away was that amazing! Kent, thank you for your creativity on so many levels, and for making your vision a reality to share with all of us.
Till the next time,
Chrys, John, Goof & Gia
This was probably the best Airbnb experience we've ever had—and certainly the highlight of our trip to Maine. We loved getting away from it all, kayaking on the lake, exploring 1BSI, the informative—and humorous!—communication, cooking over the fire, falling asleep to the sound of rain on the roof, and more. It's clean, beautiful, comfortable, and hosted by incredible people. We can't wait to go back.
This is a one of a kind experience not to be forgotten. I had seen small cabins on lake islands on other lake trips while exploring by kayak, and always wondered what it would be like to stay in one, so this was a kind of bucket list trip for us. Little Cabin Island was all I had hoped for and more. The privacy of having an island all to ourselves for three days was just amazing. And as a bonus, a family of bald eagles makes its home nearby! We will definitely be back! Kent makes everything go smoothly, from the ferry over and back to daily check-ins to see if we needed anything. He clearly cares a great deal about making sure his guests have a comfortable and memorable experience.
