When you want peace and quiet, you can't beat having your own private island on a lake. Our puppy had the time of his life and it was so refreshing to not worry about leashing him, and we had the peace of mind that he couldn't go too far, no matter what. This is the ultimate vacation for my dog. I loved seeing him romp around happily and explore every inch of the island.<br/>The cabin was cozy, quaint and thoughtful and we enjoyed relaxing by the wood stove. The canoe was great, too, and we made it to the Big Island one day to explore the trails. One of my favorite touches was the hammock (so relaxing) and the porch swing on the front porch. A perfect getaway, as long as you don't mind no electricity/hot water. If you're into that kind of thing, then you'll love the simplicity of Jo and Kent's Little Cabin Island.
Jo and Kent were the absolute best hosts for a one of a kind getaway. Accommodating...Helpful...Friendly...they made us feel like a part of the family. Would highly recommend this special island escape for anyone looking to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature, self, or a loved one. And great fishing right off the dock!!
Fantastic slice of heaven! Joanne and Kent's, off the grid, island cabin is the perfect place to go to relax and unwind. Clean and stocked with everything you would need to live simply and sustainably. The hammock on the back of the island adds a luxurious touch and the perfect place to read your book and relax with a beer as the sun sets. We hope to be back one day soon. Many thanks to Jo & Kent!
If you are looking for a little slice of Heaven on Earth, this is it. From the cozy little cabin, to the adventure that awaits this vacation spot is exactly what they describe it as. You are given the chance to unplug and reconnect with nature and your friends/family. Easily accessible, clear communication, and availability of the hosts if needed.
This is a very special place! The lake is beautiful and the water when we stayed (late August) was actually comfortable and great for swimming. Pretty amazing fishing right off the dock. You have access to a canoe and kayak for exploring. Our dog must have felt like she found paradise! They have candles and a lantern, but make sure to bring headlamps and lanterns of your own. Joanne and Kent provide you with drinking water, and they were very responsive to our questions during the trip. We wish we would have booked for longer (2 nights), and can't wait to come back!
My family stayed on the little island for four nights and had an absolutely perfect vacation. This is our 2nd trip to the islands and it was just as good as the first trip last summer. We kayaked, canoed over the big island, played games, explored the island, cooked amazing meals, learned new card games, wrote in our journals, swam and most importantly fished (my older son caught 200 fish!!). This is now going to be a yearly family tradition that we hope to share with our friends in coming years. Kent was an amazing host and helped out with any questions or needs we had. We can't wait to go back !
Our goal for this stay was to be able to 'unplug' and remember what it is like to just relax. This rental provided us the perfect escape to reach our goal! We enjoyed the surrounding peacefulness of this island, the privacy, the sounds of the loon calls both day and night, cooking over the campfire each night, and relaxing on the hammock watching the sun setting for the day. The cabin was absolutely adorable and offered everything we needed for being off the grid. Jo & Kent were so friendly and helpful. They even checked to make sure we were doing well after the first night. We wouldn't hesitate recommending this little piece of paradise to friends and family and we look forward to our return trip!
This tiny island is the perfect place to take a break from the real world, disconnect, and connect with nature. Everything is exactly as advertised: the amenities, canoes, kayaks, shower. Kent was so helpful and brought fresh ice packs for our coolers, battery packs to charge our devices.. he’s a great host. The water around the island is shallow, our dogs loved walking around splashing in it. The ferry ride is easy and they have wheelbarrows to help load your stuff from the car to the ferry. We had the best time. I suggest bringing a lot of reading material so you can hang out on the hammock (one outside, one inside). There is a grill, a fire pit, rocking chairs. If you want to shower, you can pump the water for a few minutes and then clean up. We were so pleased with our stay that we will definitely be back! Thank you, Kent!
Kent and Jo made us feel welcome and took care of us before we even arrived. We got caught in traffic and were late and Kent had a backup plan in case it got too dark all planned out for us. He reminded us "we were on vacation" and made us feel like we shouldn't worry about a thing. He gave us a history of the lake and a tour of One Big Sustainable Island. You can tell that they are extremely passionate about what they do. Jo was always quick to answer any questions I had since the time of our reservation and was always thorough and very friendly. Onto Little Cabin Island! The cabin itself is very well kept, clean and cozy. It has many nice and unique touches and is equipped with everything we needed for the weekend. There was a relaxing hammock thoughtfully hung over the edge of the lake where we spent some time reading. The bird watching was great and the fishing was the best around. We were able to let our dogs off the leash and not worry about having them run off somewhere and they really enjoyed it too! Our first night was so clear, when we looked up we saw the most beautiful night sky. It was amazing. Overall we had a very relaxing weekend in the perfect island getaway. Thanks Kent and Jo!! We will be back!
What a wonderful, unique experience we had...peaceful, quite, serene and cozy. A true retreat that offers the best of nature, fresh water, fresh air, warmth of fire and beauty of the earth...in a simple, off the grid abode! Basic amenities provided, with an emphasis on sustainable practices of composting toilet, solar power lighting, propane fueled cooking and wood stove all nestled on a private island equipped with canoe, kayak, fishing poles & life jackets. Hammocks strategically in placed to see the spectacular views or take a nap..
